May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Every Wednesday in May, I’ll be featuring a post on mental health wellness and guidance. In this post, I’ll be ending #MentalHealthMonth on a positive note and in celebration.
I noticed something this week. I was taking a shower (don’t worry, this won’t become a TMI or a NSFW concern, just keep reading!) when I realized that I love my body. As someone that has battled all forms of disordered eating (you can read about it here), this is huge! I’m truly at a point in my life where I absolutely love my body!
Has my body changed over the years? ABSOLUTELY, I’ve gained weight and that’s okay. Are there days where I don’t love my body? Yes, there are, but overall I’m grateful that my body is able to help me live a happy and healthy life.
I’m still in shock, this is incredible! I love my body.
For years, I obsessed over the number on the scale. For years, I hated every roll of fat or bulge. For years, I looked at my reflection in the mirror with disgust.
Now, I stopped weighing myself to stop the number-on-the-scale obsession. Now, I look at my extra fat as protection and warmth. Now, I strike a pose every time I catch myself in a mirror.
It’s amazing how our perceptions can change when we change our perspective.
I know I keep saying I’ll write about the toxicity of diet culture, and maybe I will one day if anyone is interested, but I feel like that post gets me up on a soapbox that nobody really asked me to stand up on. Instead, I wanted to end #MentalHealthMonth with some positivity and celebration.
I love my body, and you’re capable of loving yours, too! Your body protects you. Your body helps you move. Your body absorbs nutrients to allow you to survive. Your body breathes unprompted. Your body rocks, and for that, we need to be grateful for all our bodies do for us!

Share what you’re grateful for today! On top of being grateful for my body, I’m grateful for coffee and kitten cuddles today.
